About Us
The Central Library of North Campus popularly known as Sir Syed Ahmad Khan Library was established with the establishment of North Campus, as one of the satellite campus of University of Kashmir, Srinagar. It is named after Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, a great social reformer of the 19 th century and the founder of Aligarh Muslim University, India. Initially, the library had a collection of a few thousand books and journals with a few staff members but later the library continued to make progress with the increasing number of students from time to time. Now the library has a collection of thousands of books (18k appr.) to cater the needs of teachers, scholars and students. SSAK Library provides various facilities to its users which include the browsing section, study rooms, etc., where students and scholars can explore information related to their subjects/disciplines. The library has subscription to various national and international journals, newspapers and magazines. Moreover, library has access to all e-resources available at the Allama Iqbal Library of University of Kashmir which include popular journals, magazines to meet the needs of its students, academicians and research scholars.
Vision
The SSAK library’s vision is to cater to the informational, academic and research needs of the students, scholars and teachers. It aims to become the hub of learning in this age of technological revolution to achieve excellence in teaching, learning and research.
Mission
The mission of SSAK Library is to provide user-oriented library services to enhance teaching, learning and research activities of the Campus by providing them with high quality academic and research resources.
Objectives
- To achieve and furnish the vision and mission of the library, the SSAK Library has the following major objectives:
- To organise relevant and up-to-date information in terms of books and periodicals to cater the needs and requirement of the users of the library.
- To support teaching and learning activities of students and faculty. This includes providing access to wide range of academic resources such as books, journals, databases and multimedia materials.
- To support research activities of research scholars working in different areas of study. This includes providing access to scholarly literature, research databases, archival materials, and other necessary resources required for conducing academic research.
- To adopt and establish latest Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for proving different services to the users more efficiently.
- To establish and provide conductive physical and virtual spaces for studying, research, collaboration and intellectual exploration. This includes providing quiet study rooms for reading, browsing and access to online resources and services.
